FAQ
Do I need professional qualifications to volunteer?
No qualifications are needed. We welcome anyone who brings kindness, patience, and a genuine desire to help children. Whether you are a teacher, student, artist, or simply someone with a willing heart — there is a place for you here.
How long can I volunteer?
We welcome volunteers for a minimum of 2 weeks. Longer stays are encouraged and have a deeper impact. We will discuss duration during the application process.
Is Uganda safe to visit?
Uganda is generally a safe and welcoming country. Our team provides local safety guidance and is available to support you throughout your stay. We have hosted volunteers from many countries without incident.
Do I need to speak a local language?
English is widely spoken in Uganda and is the medium of instruction in schools, so no local language knowledge is required. We also offer language exchange opportunities so you can learn greetings and phrases — the children love it!
What visa do I need?
Most visitors require a tourist or volunteer visa to enter Uganda. You can apply online through the Uganda e-visa portal before departure. Our team can guide you through the process once you are accepted.
What are the costs involved?
Accommodation and meals are provided. Volunteers are responsible for their own flights, visa fees, travel insurance, and personal expenses. Detailed fee information is available on our Worldpackers listing.
Can I visit as a solo traveler?
Absolutely. Many of our volunteers arrive solo and quickly find community both within our team and among the children. You will never feel alone — our local team and fellow volunteers are always there.
"Your presence matters more than your perfection."
  • The children we support are looking for hope, love, encouragement, and opportunity — not credentials.
  • Even small acts of kindness create lasting change in a child's life.
  • When you volunteer with Lumora, you are not just helping a community — you become family.
  • You will leave Uganda changed, with lifelong memories, friendships, and a deeper sense of purpose.
