Lumora For Children Uganda welcomes hands-on volunteers to live, teach, and work alongside orphaned children in Jinja โ the source of the Nile. No fixed fees, free accommodation, and a local team that has your back from the airport onward.
“The children and families we support aren't looking for perfection โ they're looking for hope, love, and opportunity.”
You don't need to be a teacher, a nurse, or a photographer to make a difference here. What matters most is your kindness, your commitment, and your willingness to show up for a child who needs you.
Every volunteer who joins Lumora For Children Uganda becomes part of a small, close-knit household โ not a checklist of chores. You'll eat together, laugh together, and leave having built friendships that outlast the trip.
When you volunteer with us, you're not just helping a community. You become family.
Every day looks a little different, shaped by the children's needs and your own strengths. Here's where most volunteers spend their time.
Dance, Sports, art, music, Fitness, games and basic life skills โ sessions built around what the children are curious about that week.
One-on-one time with reading, writing and homework, plus the everyday care that keeps a household of children running.
Blog writing, social media, photography and videography that helps tell the children's stories to the wider world.
Help develop fundraising ideas, write project proposals, and document our programs for donors and partners.
Accompany children to school, check in with teachers, and support their education beyond the classroom.
Prepare and serve meals with the household team โ a small daily ritual that means a lot to the children.
You're giving your time freely โ so we make sure your stay is comfortable, safe and genuinely enjoyable.
We don't charge a fixed volunteering fee. Accommodation is provided free of charge for the duration of your stay.
If you'd like to help cover facilitation costs โ transport, program materials, or the small running costs of hosting you โ you're welcome to contribute whatever fits your own budget, entirely at your discretion.
Whatever you're able to give (or not) will never change how welcome you are.
Once you're accepted into the program, our team guides you through every step โ here's what to have ready and what we handle for you.
Our home base sits in Jinja, on the banks of the world's longest river โ a town known for whitewater rafting, sunrise boat rides, and a warmth that greets every newcomer. Your volunteering days are full, but your free time is genuinely free: explore local markets, hike nearby trails, or simply sit by the water.
This isn't a program built around a checklist. It's built around presence โ showing up for a child, day after day, and letting the rest of your trip unfold around that.
